Strengths Perspective: Culturally-responsiveness Strategies for Formerly Incarcerated Individuals
Trainer: Ida Terry, MA, LADC of REACH Training & Consulting
Culture impacts every aspect of our lives. This is especially true for individuals reentering the community from a highly structured criminal justice culture; a culture replete with unique belief systems, learned values, and communication patterns that impact reintegration and recovery. Formerly incarcerated substance-involved individuals often find themselves in an entrapping niche; many are stymied by catch-22 situations from which there appears to be little hope of escape. Escape is possible! Participants who complete this workshop will be able to:
- Identify cultural strengths and barriers to recovery
-
Articulate and implement the six-point method of Strengths Perspective
-
Utilize existing cultural strengths to transform feelings of powerlessness into hope and resiliency
-
Who should attend: Behavioral Health and Mental Health Providers,Correctional and Community Re-Entry Professionals, Outreach Workers, Prison Ministry staff, Clergy, Social Workers and Marriage Family Therapists
